JOHN GUNTHER EUROPEAN QUARTET

O quarteto vai tocar composições originais, bem como nossas interpretações contemporâneas de alguns padrões de jazz.

John Gunther é um compositor e multi- instrumentista tocando saxofones , clarinete , e flauta . Com um espírito musical inquieto, explora todas as formas de jazz, do tradicional à música de vanguarda , bem como clássica, world music e música eletrônica experimental.

Ele já tocou ou gravou com Dave Douglas, Ron Miles, Christian McBride, Bobby Watson, Wallace Roney , Larry Goldings , Tom Harrel , Dewey Redman , Joe Williams , The Woody Herman Orchestra, a Vanguard Jazz Orquestra e A Maria Schneider Orchestra. Como parte do New York city’s “downtown” music scene por muitos anos, produziu cinco gravações para Creative Improvised Music Projects ( CIMP ) e é co- fundador dos conjuntos de jazz contemporâneos , “Spooky Actions ” e ” Convergence “.

John é Professor associado e diretor do Programa de Estudos de Jazz Thompson na Universidade de Colorado Boulder. A gravação mais recente de John com seu grupo o “Safari Trio ” está na Dazzle Jazz label .

The quartet will be playing original compositions as well as our contemporary interpretations of some Jazz Standards

John Gunther is a composer and multi-instrumentalist playing Saxophones, Clarinet, and Flute. With a restless musical spirit, he explores all forms of jazz from traditional to avant-garde as well as classical music, world music and experimental electronic music. He has performed or recorded with Dave Douglas, Ron Miles, Christian McBride, Bobby Watson, Wallace Roney, Larry Goldings,Tom Harrel, Dewey Redman, Joe Williams, The Woody Herman Orchestra, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and The Maria Schneider Orchestra. As part of New York city’s “downtown” music scene for many years, he produced five recordings for Creative Improvised Music Projects (CIMP) and is co-founder of the contemporary jazz ensembles, “Spooky Actions” and “Convergence.” John is an Associate Professor and director of the Thompson Jazz Studies Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.   John’s most recent recording with his group the “Safari Trio” is on the Dazzle Jazz label.
